Alpha School of Motoring Cars

Don’t trust to Lady Luck – come to Alpha School of Motoring and be assured of that Driving Test pass!

Almost all driving instructors in London and this country are self-employed. They either work for themselves as sole-traders or under a franchised agreement with a driving school. This is true for the largest national driving schools such as AA, BSM, RED etc as well as the local driving schools, ourselves included.

One of the major issues concerning the value of your driving lessons is quality control over the driving instructors themselves. The vast majority of driving schools in London as well as the rest of the country, including those national driving schools mentioned above, tend to leave it up to their Driving Instructors to make sure that they're keeping up to date with the latest changes in legislation; innovations in teaching techniques; dress code; punctuality and reliability etc. Because of this, many of these instructors don't bother with 'raising their game' as there doesn't appear to be any incentive (from their own driving school) to do so. Invariably they very rapidly deteriorate in the standards of driving instruction that they give because they aren't having their standards regularly monitored.

Quality control at our London based driving school is rather different. It comes through our head trainer, and he puts himself through a rigorous programme of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) in order to 'stay ahead of the game' so to speak.

As an example, in March this year, he took his re-assessment to maintain his qualification as a holder of the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction. To maintain this qualification, he has to take an assessment (conducted by a Police Traffic Division Officer) every three years. It consists of an hour and a half drive over varying road conditions displaying an advanced driving standard whilst offering advice and commentary on the road ahead to his passenger. We're pleased to advise that he passed with flying colours. (He actually passed the original course at distinction level - 96%). This qualification ensures that he can offer driving tuition and training/coaching to qualified and experienced drivers at their own level, without patronising or pre-judging them.

In early December 2010, he re-qualified his two year voluntary assessment for ORDIT, again at the highest level (Grade 6). ORDIT stands for the Official Register of Driving Instructor Training and as the name suggests, it ensures that any members of the public that wish to become Driving Instructors and/or Driving Instructors that wish to take further training, can come to him and be assured of very high quality coaching/tuition in driving instructional techniques.

Besides the above, which come around every 3 and 2 years respectively, and as well as his regular statutory DSA assessment (Check Test), he takes further training and education along with the other driving instructors at our Clapham, London based driving school.

  • We attend regular seminars covering various aspects of Driving Instruction.
  • We do regular presentations to other driving instructors about the latest changes in our industry.
  • We have created and delivered a three stage road safety education programme for school children for years 11 (15-16 year olds), lower 6th (16-17 year olds) and upper 6th (17-18 year olds).
  • We write monthly editorials for the MSA's (Motor Schools Association) national newspaper and was voted Editor of the Year by the MSA national committee for the years 2009 and 2010.
  • Besides our head driving instructor trainer, another of our driving instructors is a member of Institute of Advance Motoring (IAM) and another of our driving instructors (Ewa) is also taking training for this advanced driving test as well.
  • Our other two driving instructors take constant re-assessments, both of whom enjoy a driving test pass rate In excess of 90%. Sean has had three of his pupils pass their driving test with a clean sheet i.e. no errors. One clean sheet is a very rare event but three is almost unheard of for a driving test taken in the London area. Lesley has earned an enviable reputation as an excellent driving instructor with customers coming from all parts of London just to take driving tuition with her, rather than using a driving instructor more local to them.

Our learner driver customers originate from all parts of the world and come from various parts of London and Surrey as well as coming from all aspects of the social spectrum, but they all have one thing in common. They all recognise the quality, reliability and value for money that Alpha School of Motoring offers and appreciate the security of knowing that they're receiving the very highest quality driving tuition.

To summarise, you could be lucky and find a local driving instructor who is good and suits your purposes elsewhere. However trusting to luck isn't something anyone wanting to learn to drive and spending money on driving lessons wants to rely on.

So rely on Alpha School of Motoring and achieve the dream.
